A lesson in warfare
Vic and his squad receive four new replacements, but they're all green teenage recruits, soon out on their first mission. No star power this week.
Action picks up quickly when they approach a minefield, and Kirby has the task of searching by hand for them as the kids lok on anxiously.
After a brief initial skirmish with enemy soldiers, they encounter an armored vehicle, quite a test to see if the youngsters will follow orders. Vic heroically dispenses with them via a grenade, and the troops to a solid job of mopping up the rest of the Germans. But one hotheaded recruit gets killed in the process.
Next hurdle is a group of Germans guarding the road with a machine gun. Soon the kids start dropping like flies, with one turning coward. Again, a grenade tossed by Vic saves the day, with one of the kids performing heroically, too. A fine ending rounds off a solid portrait of young men adapting to the realities of warfare.
