Aunt Kate
JordanThomasHall4 March 2019
When Norman finds a picture of Eddie's Aunt Kate Landis (Francine York), who bares a strong resemblance to Eddie's mother, Tom asks him not to make a print of it for Eddie to "live in the past". When she arrives in town, Tom puts her off from visiting and hides from Eddie that he even has an aunt. Eddie overhears the phone conversation to think it is a girlfriend that his father doesn't want him to know about. An upset Eddie reasons that he will keep secrets too by eating candy in bed. Tom explains to Mrs. Livingston that the reason he doesn't want Eddie to know his aunt is because she looks nearly identical to his mother, and would be hard to handle emotionally while still trying to get over losing her. Mrs. Livingston questions whether it is for his own sake too. Tom reconsiders. Kate arrives to spend an afternoon with the boys, but Tom is forced to stay at the office to finish an important layout after Norman calls in sick. That evening Kate returns Eddie dressed as a hippie "love child" with money he won at the track. He's learned hippie slang and been encouraged to hide that they saw Norman at a party they went to. Tom is now concerned not only for Eddie's mannerisms but that the image of his family-oriented, ladylike mother may be reimagined. A talk with Mrs. Livingston has Tom searching deep into his feelings.

Moral: Even if vastly different, family is family. Also, a child can often have more reason than expected.
