Unsettling Episode...
fourtwentytax25 April 2023
Both situations in this episode were unsettling, the first with diametrically opposing views of a death that would impact people's lives and the related insubordination that one person did which could destroy lives. The second, the racism that occurred in the 1960's which is not understandable today and in the North. The comment about mowing lawns & pulling "white peoples" weeds for $3 a day at age was just meant to stir hatred and racism. Based on dates, ages and comments that would have been around 1950. In 1965 I was mowing & pulling white peoples weeds for 50 cents an hour but if it took me 6 hours I would never be hired again. In 1969, at 16 I was working for a national company pumping gas, washing windshields, checking oil and airing tires in "black peoples' cars for 90 cents an hour or about $4.50 to $7.20 a day depending on how many hours I worked. $3. In 1950 was about $4.60 in 1969 and would be like paying a 14 y/o $35-$40 now. So money items need to be taking in perspective without the emotion...
