I think that this episode is a terrific example of amazing writing and planning by Chris Haddock and Jesse McKeown. Throughout the series, and especially this last season there have been main themes which may only be an episode long and also a number ongoing story-lines involving various characters. This episode lets us see how they have all been tied in, and how some will or may resolve.
One of these involves a bad cop named Detective Brian Curtis brilliantly played by Colin Cunningham who is running scared as the net tightens because he is being investigated for various things including, possibly murder. Then there is Bill Dow's portrayal of Mayor Russ Hathaway who gets caught up in the arrogance and power then falls over a drunk driving incident that may involve a hit and run. I will never forget his wide eyed 'deer caught in the headlights' expression as he throws a drink in Da Vinci's face.
Throughout all the mayhem Da Vinci, seemingly 'lived' by Nicholas Campbell appears to brilliantly 'fumble' his way though the maze of intrigue, and manipulate the events like a master tactician.
Many other numerous plot lines are all there and are brilliantly conceived all played by this stellar cast so well with very natural interplay and impeccable timing that is rarely seen in other shows. This was the penultimate episode and like others in the series just left me wanting to see more. Alas it was not to be so.
Maybe Haddocks writing in Da Vinci should be used to teach potential writers as an example of what TO do to make a program that thinking adults want to watch?
