- Da Vinci investigates the death of three people in three separate incidents. The first is a homeless woman commonly known as the pigeon lady, her dead body found on a church's steps where she could usually be found feeding the pigeons. Da Vinci is concerned that the church's newly implemented nighttime closed door policy may have exacerbated the death. Beyond determining the cause of death, Maria finds among the pigeon lady's possessions an interesting news article which may provide a clue as to why she was at that specific church. The second is a sixteen year old woman named Alice Fellows. Although she was high on ecstasy which could have contributed to the incident, she was killed in a hit and run. What little information the authorities have is the offending vehicle is a silver Mercedes for which they have a partial license plate. Later, McNab gets a positive identification of the vehicle and its high profile owner, who claims the car was stolen. The third is a charged money launderer named Michael Zang, who purportedly shot himself in the office of his lawyer, Richard Norton. Because Da Vinci believes that Norton isn't telling the entire truth about the death, Da Vinci calls in Homicide to apply a little pressure on Norton. Zang's wife Vera, who is called in to provide testimony, has other things on her mind. With Da Vinci preoccupied with these cases, Lou takes his first case as a coroner. It is of an aboriginal youth named Roy Cardinale, whose dead body is found by the railroad tracks. He was seemingly killed by a train running over him, but there is evidence that he was severely beaten before his death. Beyond physical evidence at the site, Kosmo and Leary, who lead this investigation, learn a bit more about Roy from Constable Carter, who tells a story of a relatively harmless and well liked petty criminal but who was well known to all those in the police department on patrol. On other business, Suki tells Kosmo and Leary of an incident at Brian's storage garage. Their investigation of him has stalled otherwise. On more personal matters, Kosmo tells Leary about someone that is interested in him. That and a request by Carter are some of the first steps for Leary to a more stable existence. And Da Vinci ultimately gets the news about whether he got the Chief of Police job.—Huggo
- Roy Cardinale, a small time dealer catering to young clubbers and party-goers, and his friend John, are picked up by Police Constables Dino Rosario and Gloria ?, and, with an additional patrol car following, they are taken out to Terminal Drive, where Dino lets John go but gives Roy a heavy beating. Cardinales body is later found near the railtracks, his leg severed by a train resulting in the major bleeding that led to his death. Kosmo and Leary are called out along with Lou, new to the coroners service (he previously worked in body pick-up). Also that night, Da Vinci and McNab attend to the hit and run of a young girl emerging from a nightclub. Noone sees the accident but the Mayors car is spotted nearby five minutes before the accident. The Mayor reports his car stolen from the driveway of his family home. Rose and Shannon are investigating the alleged suicide of a Mr Zang in the office of laywer Richard Norton. Norton and Da Vinci went to school together and Shannon has had run-ins with him in the past. They are suspiscious that events did not go down as Norton claims, but have no evidence to prove otherwise. Mr Yangs wife, however, claims that her husband brought over a hundred thousand dollars with him when he left for Nortons office, and this remains unnacounted for. Da Vinci is also investigating the death of an elderley woman on the steps of a Downtown church which had once opened its doors to the homeless at night but has stopped to offer that facility. It emerges that the woman has died from tuberculosis, but pathologist Maria also finds that she has rat poison in her blood from eating grains that she collected from railway tracks to feed to the pigeons. Da Vinci, with the help of his temporary assistant Noel (Helen is apparently on holiday), discovers that the old lady had followed the Priest of the church all the way from Edmonton, and had been interupting services with the insinuation that she had suffered abuse at the hands of the Priest. When Da Vinci interrogates the Priest and the church care-taker he is shut out of the church and told to contact the Priests lawyer for any further questions. Kelly reprimands Da Vinci for yet another public accusation without due evidence and tells him to stay away from the Priest. However, after learning that he did not get the Police Chief job he goes on a drinking spree and ends up banging on the church doors and, failing to raise anyone, sits down on the steps to talk to a pigeon. Other notable events in this episode include Suki calling Leary and Kosmo to Brians garage where the owners dog has been shot by an intruder, Leary going to look around an apartment in Sukis building, and Leary starting to coach Eastside under 19s soccer. Brian and Marla also feature, bemoaning their lack of snitches, and deciding to approach Sue again.
