J.R. Ewing : Alan, I'm not that stupid, and you're surely not that smart. Now don't lie to me, boy.
Alan Beam : You want the truth? I'll give it to you. Lucy and I have been spending a lot of time together. And we're very much in love.
J.R. Ewing : In love?
Alan Beam : Why not? She's pretty. And intelligent. And nice.
J.R. Ewing : And rich. Don't forget rich.
-
Alan Beam : You know how important I am to J.R.
Kristin Shepard : For now. You're replaceble.
Alan Beam : What's replaceable is a secretary who does most of her work on her back.
-
Alan Beam : Was that J.R. you were talking to just now?
Kristin Shepard : Aha.
Alan Beam : Well, why didn't you put me on?
Kristin Shepard : He only had time for his most urgent messages. Flunkies aren't urgent. He'll meet you at the condo in the morning.
Alan Beam : What's the matter with you? You know how important I am to J.R.
Kristin Shepard : For now. You're replaceable.
Kristin Shepard : [scoffs] What's replaceable is a secretary who does most of her work on her back.
Alan Beam : I'd watch my mouth if I were you. Once the Barnes campaign is over, you're back on the streets.
Kristin Shepard : You're worried, aren't you?
[smirks]
Kristin Shepard : You're afraid that if I get too close to J.R., I'll cut you out.
Alan Beam : That's a laugh. He needs me.
Kristin Shepard : Mm-hmm.
[nods]
Kristin Shepard : In only one way.
[as he leaves:]
Kristin Shepard : And from what I've heard about J.R., he's overdue for a change.
-
Alan Beam : Kristin, would you get me a cup of coffee, please? Cream and sugar.
Kristin Shepard : You must be joking.
Alan Beam : Which word did you find amusing, cream or sugar?
Kristin Shepard : J.R., do you have to meet with him here?
J.R. Ewing : Darling, I didn't hire him for his manners. Would you please get us a cup of coffee? Be a sport, all right?
Kristin Shepard : [as she goes off to fetch] Would you like one...?
J.R. Ewing : No, I don't want any.
-
Alan Beam : I didn't mean I don't love your body. Of course I love your body. A dead man would love your body, are you kidding? The point is, you're not just someone... I go to bed with. I'm crazy about you. Now what do I have to do to prove it to you?
Betty Lou Barker : You can stop spending so much time with Lucy Ewing.
Alan Beam : I don't spend any more time with her than I have to, and you know why I have to.
Betty Lou Barker : That doesn't mean I like it.
Alan Beam : Well, I don't like it either, but I'm doing it for us.
Betty Lou Barker : There hasn't been much "us" lately.
Alan Beam : [sighs] Betty Lou, I told you, this is the way it has to be. I'll be rich, and you'll have everything you've ever wanted.
