Ash and his unit head towards The Coast, they begin preparations for D Day. Ash contacts Susan, and has an important question for her. Norma finds herself dealing with a very big personal problem.
Without a shadow of a doubt, this is one of the show's standout episodes, father story, the character play, the acting, everything is on point, this is absolutely brilliant.
Douglas Camfield did a terrific job with the direction of this episode, everything about it is on point, the locations, the camera work, the general flow of the episode, it is terrific.
The location work on the beach looks terrific, everything is so authentic, I'd go so far as to say it looks more convincing than several later war films that I've seen.
I thought Norma's story was really well played out, the shame that would have been attached to a girl getting pregnant out of wedlock at that time must have been horrendous. Watling was excellent.
This show was not afraid to write out main characters, it was expected I guess, but it always.
What an ending!!
10/10.
