Back to camp
Tweekums18 January 2013
Warning: Spoilers
When Daria and Quinn get invited to attend a reunion at Camp Grizzly Daria is not keen to go; it is only the threat of having to help clear out the garage that persuades her. They get a lift there with Trent and Jane because Trent has lost musical inspiration and thinks he may rediscover it in the country side. Once at the camp it becomes apparent that Daria wasn't as unpopular as she thought; she has a fan who found her an inspiration. Quinn meanwhile meets up with old friends who could almost be clones of the fashion club. While at the camp we see flashbacks as the girls talk about what happened when they were at the camp five years earlier. Elsewhere Jane and Trent visit a store where the owners try to ply them with their less than wonderful 'homemade' goods and back home Jake and Helen clear out the garage with Jake getting upset as he is reminded of numerous holidays they had to cancel because of Helen's work.

This episode had some pretty funny moments; Jake ranting is always a laugh and it was fun to see Quinn's time at camp not going according to plan when she lets slip about an indiscretion that happened on her last visit. Unfortunately Daria came across as being rather mean with her 'fan' Amelia... this did serve to make it more enjoyable when it was Amelia rather than Daria who stood up to an overenthusiastic camp leader. Jane and Trent's story had one or two laughs but felt like a distraction from the events at camp. Overall this episode had some good laughs; it may not be a classic but it was worth watching.

Talk about a contrived plot!!

Warning: Spoilers
I will admit that some of the plots to "Daria" are a bit contrived. No school takes kids on many of the weird outings that Lawndale does and no one does what Daria and Quinn do in this episode! Here is the ridiculous plot in a nutshell. An old camp where Daria and Quinn went once five years earlier is having a reunion(!). Daria hates the idea yet oddly goes. Quinn, on the other hand, loves the idea and goes as well. Now why would a crappy old summer camp have a reunion and why would Daria go?! This should have been told, if at all, as a flashback episode. As it was done, it just didn't work--even if I did enjoy what happened next.

As to what happened next, Daria is her usual miserable self but has a mini fan club--a girl who remembers Daria as a much more cool and nice person than she really was. This leads to a neat ending for Daria and especially this fan. As for Quinn, at first it's like her and the Fashion Club all over again--that is until Quinn says the wrong thing and, for once, has a less than happy ending.

Okay, but far from a great episode. It has its moments but the plot is pretty contrived.

Any episode of Daria is better than no Daria

Warning: Spoilers
I thought the Jane and Trent visit to the country wisdom couple and trying their potato chips didn't really go anywhere. I was almost expecting the couple to be link the Gimp from Pulp Fiction or some shocking twist like that.

Daria meets a Daria fan, kind of like a Daria look-a-like by the name of Amelia, who leads a revolt at the camp reunion at the end of the episode. All in the name of individualism that Daria would approve.

Quinn reunites with Fashion Club doppelgangers, which was okay.

Still, any Daria episode is better than no Daria episode. I wish Daria was rebooted as I'd love to know Daria's take on Pokemon Go, social media, Facebook, Snapchat, Trump, The Apprentice, Black Mirror.
