X series or X-files or X-men ? (dvd)

In straight line from my reviews of the 1st season, here's my review for the second. If the first was so-so, the second is even less interesting. Indeed, the two interests of the first (subversive content and good chemistry between Max and Logan) have been thrown out:

The subversive content has been changed for the monster of the week show. We can't no more think Manticore as a secret program for soldiers but rather like a big zoo of transgenic mutants: in this season, we see dogs, cats, mermaid, reptiles, vampires, clones, psychic pusher, Gossamer (what a shame this 2.12!). With all those freaks content, i had the feeling to watch "Xmen" comics in worse and their make-up are really hideous!

The chemistry has become challenge because of the idea of the targeted virus. Thus, nothing really happened between Max and Logan and sometimes the show turns into a lame soap opera: "I want to go out", "why the silence" "it's better we split"...

To exit this monotony, the writers bring a new thread involving a hidden cult. But frankly, it's not the quality of "X-files" and its decorum with robes, snakes, hidden language, prophecy is rather ridiculous (see especially 2.16 or 2.20).

Finally, the only good thing that makes the show watchable is its cast: the newcomers (Asha, Alec, White) are cool.

Like the 1st season, the last episodes are much better than the beginning because they are less dully repetitive. My pick for this season is thus 2.15 "Fuhgeddaboudit" because it's the only one in which the light tone of this season is indeed funny. 2.18 "Dawg Day Afternoon" is also excellent because it's brilliantly directed and the only one very dark.

What i will finally remember about this show, it's the surprise to see how Jessica has hot blood, in the sense that for a girl, she can be very aggressive. Thus, my advice would be to catch another show to really explore a character instead of lining up empty movies.
