- Primrose: [confidentially] I need to talk to you about going home.
- Pop Larkin: Oh? Yeah? What about it?
- Primrose: Pop, do I have to go home? Must I go home? My boyfriend, Marc-Antoine, has talked to his parents, and I can stay with them in Paris.
- Pop Larkin: [sighs] Well... Paris is a long way, sweetheart. It needs some thinking about.
- Primrose: In case you're worried about sex, we have it in school.
- Pop Larkin: [thrown] Pardon? Well, me, worried? About sex?
- Primrose: In biology.
- Pop Larkin: [relieved] Oh.
- Primrose: They don't teach them sex in French schools, though.
- Pop Larkin: Don't they? How do you know?
- Primrose: Cos I asked Marc-Antoine.
- Pop Larkin: Oh.
- Primrose: And he was awfully surprised we had it so soon.
- Pop Larkin: Was he?
- Primrose: Anyway, he was very interested.
- Pop Larkin: Was he?
- Primrose: He was keen that we should get to know each other better.
- Pop Larkin: Was he?
- Primrose: Pop...?
- Pop Larkin: [sighs] Look, Poppet, these things can't be rushed. I mean, about you going to Paris and staying with a family and that.
- [sighs]
- Pop Larkin: I know.
- [he rises, and she looks up at him]
- Pop Larkin: We'd better talk to Ma.
- Primrose: I already have. She said that it was up to you.
- Pop Larkin: [thwarted] Oh, did she? I'll tell you what. Why don't we sleep on it tonight, and then we'll talk about it again in the morning?
- Primrose: Pop...?
- Pop Larkin: Hmm?
- Primrose: You and I better have a chat about something else. I was in the dunes this afternoon. I never knew you could swim.
- [grins mischievously, for she saw him with Angela]
