Another lovely episode, this time establishing the relationship between John and his son (played by actor Ralph Bates' real life son), as well as his horrid ex wife.

It's all beautifully played, and we really do feel John's plight.

There's also time for more brilliant moments from the 1-2-1 gang, with Kirk, Ralph and Sylvia on fine form.

Excellent stuff.

Sad and funny in equal measures.

Sunday has come around again, and John gets his day with Toby, with everything shut, it just leaves the zoo. John and the rest of the 1-2-1 club, are invited to a party held by member, Mrs Boyd Peters, who has a little problem.

It just gets better and better, the combination of sad and funny is flawless, it's something that today's writers just don't get, the two sides of the same coin perfectly make up the whole.

Lots of funny moments, including Mrs Arnott's alarm and Kirk's 'taking one for the team,' there are also those moments that get you frustrated, including John dealing with his awful ex wife, and her awful new lover.

Why on Earth did he get with Wendy? She's awful, what a horrid woman, she and Mike seem well suited.

Amazing to think that Toby was played by Ralph's real life son, Will Bates, what a nice memory to have and cherish.

8/10.

The episode sees the debut of John's son Toby (played by Ralph Bates real life son) and his ex wife Wendy.

Sunday is the only day when John is allowed to see Toby. In 1986 there was no sunday shopping and the only place open was the zoo in London. Forget museums.

For Toby it is another day at the zoo and a burger meal.

Meanwhile Wendy is not happy. Her new man is out drinking again with the lads.

She makes a cynical play for John and he falls for it.

Meanwhile at a function arranged by Louise. A woman called Sylvia makes a play for John. Maybe he should take her number.

It is interesting how fussy John can be when he complains of being lonely. Maybe he thought he could genuinely get back together with his ex wife.
