Roy Bean (1825-1903) did live in Vinegaroon, TX, in 1882, but this was not the town renamed Langtry. Langtry, TX, was originally established as a railroad camp called "Eagle Nest" in 1882. By 1884, it was renamed Langtry, most likely after George Langtry, an engineer and foreman who supervised work crews in the area. Roy Bean moved to Langtry around the same time the town was renamed.
