The current (2017) syndicated air version of this 1953 episode uses the original Stanley Andrews/"Old Ranger" introduction sequence, but has Will Rogers, Jr. as its narrator. This is likely due to the programs recut and rerelease as "The Pioneers" in 1964, in which Will Rogers, Jr. hosted, and then some confluence of the two iterations occurring in a subsequent restoration effort.
After the outbreak of the American Civil War, Brigham Young (1801-1877) thought the war would end the supply of cotton to his people, and wanted to find someplace to raise cotton. On 6 Oct 1861, about 300 families were selected to settle the new colony, originally called "Dixie." St George was not a good place to grow cotton, but developed tourism as its economy after the railroads started bringing tourists to Zion National Monument.
