Considerable difficulties were experienced during filming at Lake Eyre due to adverse weather conditions which included sandstorms with winds gusting up to 40 miles per hour (64 kilometres per hour) that required some of the film crew to hold down the hut they were using for filming, and persistent rain, with the area, which normally receives two inches (50.8mm) in a year receiving 75 points (26.25mm) over three days. Because it was a remote location, 11 days had been allowed for the shoot, but it ended up taking 17 days after unexpected rain - the first seen in the area for 14 months - flooded the usually dry lake. With the lake being covered in six inches (15.2 centimetres) of water, some desert scenes had to be re-shot at sand dunes near Newcastle, New South Wales and in Cronulla in southern Sydney, New South Wales. These problems could explain why only 11 episodes were filmed in the second season compared to 12 in the first season, and were also one of the reasons why the series was not renewed for a third season.
