Mr. Wilson And The Pool

A street sign gets knocked down, Dennis and Tommy replace it the wrong way.

One of Season 1's funniest. We get to see Dennis' best friend Tommy and pesky girl Margaret for the first time. Mr. Wilson wants to have some receding work done on his lawn, he chases away "jinx" Dennis. A neighbor calls Wilson a grouch. Joseph Kearns has many funny scenes, he plays the part as a neurotic fussbudget.

When the sign now shows Mississippi Street rather than Elm Street, workmen come to put in a pool at Wilson's home by mistake. He was not home at the time. If that was not enough, Dennis finds a huge firecracker, puts it in his garbage can. His dad unknowingly dumps it in the incinerator, causing a big bang. Hilarious moment when Wilson thinks it is a bomb going off and puts on his Air Raid helmet! Lots of laughs, don't miss it.

Mr. Wilson Isn't A Grouch.

Miss Elkins may have a point. But Mr. Wilson has a lot on his mind. And you find out how people can change when it looks like a swimming pool is on next door's neighbor. Except George doesn't want a pool. Dennis tampered with the street signs. He was just trying to help. It's enough to make someone not want to leave home, while work is being done on it. And Dennis just trying to help. This short takes on the look of a Mr. Magoo cartoon. Also it's a fun look at Cold War hysteria. It's a great example of how 70s revisits of the 50s and early 60s are no match for shows from the era. Maybe this is more like 30s entertainment. Still I prefer Andy Hardy inspired movies to Happy Days or Brady Bunch.
