Mr. Wilson Goes to School
FlushingCaps19 March 2011
Warning: Spoilers
This was a really funny episode of one of my favorite series. I noticed it was written by Jay Somers, who is most known for his role in creating Green Acres, another of my favorite series. Both G.A. and Dennis were shows that gave you a lot of laughs. No moral messages, not usually anyhow, but a good deal of laughter, frequently with silliness, and that includes this episode.

Here Mr. Wilson starts things by complaining about his property taxes being raised. His letter to the editor about the local schools wasting money prompts a visit from Dennis's principal, who invites John to spend a whole day in class as though he were a classmate of Dennis's.

Wilson plans to write some articles about all the waste he sees, but doesn't know what he's in for. He shows up a minute late after dropping all his books that he picked up the day before. Then he gets in trouble for talking when he shouldn't, talking back to the teacher, and more.

He finds himself the last one in class to finish a math problem--one that sounded rather complicated to me, by the way, for 10-year-olds. He gets fooled by Seymour at recess, then finishes his day by having problems playing the Earth revolving around the Sun.

I thought this was one of the funniest episodes of the series. Wilson had several things happen to him I didn't expect and Dennis and his friends had some good lines.

One thing that was odd--neither Alice nor Henry appeared. My version lasted 25 minutes, so I think it was the complete episode, and they weren't listed in the cast at the end. Other than when Alice was "helping her mother" while Gloria Henry was actually giving birth, I don't believe I've seen any other episodes where either of them was missing altogether.

It also marked the return of Margaret, as a classmate of Dennis and Tommy's, the first episode in quite some time for her. According to IMDb's list for her, she wasn't in any episodes that aired after December 1962, but she was in this one.
