Warning: Spoilers
When Anthony is dating a wealthy black girl, his overly protective father steps in and tries to discredit him by having a woman show up with a baby at a fancy dinner and claimed that Anthony is the father. But a private conversation with the women of Sugarbakers and daddy dearest reveals the truth, and they find out more facts about Anthony's arrested unfortunate incarceration, Julia is impressed by Anthony's character in not trying to stand up for himself which he felt would sound like excuses and a desperate attempt to defend himself. It is obvious by this time in the second season that they decided to make Anthony a major character, and Meshach Taylor's more regular appearances was a wise decision.

The subplot of Suzanne having a car accident and attempting to be more giving really doesn't go anywhere and is us a minor part of the show. It's fascinating to see a possessive father, but have the mother completely standing up for Anthony and her daughter, reminding her husband of his own humble beginnings. In fact, it seems that her father tried to do the exact same thing to him that he was trying to do to Anthony. Unfortunately, this would be one of many relationships that Anthony would go through in the first few seasons before he found anyone constant, and if anyone was deserving of happiness, it was him. It's a pleasant episode, not overly hysterical, but memorable nonetheless.
