The newly sworn in judge is the murderer, and he murders his barely legal girlfriend (just about to turn 18). We later learn the judge had a relationship with her Mum many years earlier. On an important sidenote, Michael Tucci (no relation to Stanley) who played Hospital Administrator Norman, ceased to appear after season 4. Sadly there was no mention of his departure at the beginning of season 5. In fanfic perhaps Norman ended up being promoted to run a hospital in NYC.
