A very simple plot...simply done well.
As was established in the first episode, Laurie* Petry is a lovable but rather neurotic woman. In "My Blonde-Haired Brunette", she's worried that Rob is neglecting her and the bloom has worn off in their marriage. So, she talks to Millie and they come up with a crazy solution to the marital 'problem'...that she should bleach her hair in order to spice up the marriage. Naturally, things do NOT go as expected...and comic results ensue.
I was watching the documentary "Being Mary Tyler Moore" and saw clips of this and heard it was her favorite episode of the series. I can see why, as she's given a chance to shine and is quite funny. A wonderful example of a VERY simple plot that is done exceptionally well.
*Like many of the early episodes, Mary Tyler Moore's character is called 'Laurie' by Rob...something they only seemed to do in very early episodes.
