- TriviaThe episode was created as a showcase for Jerry Lanning. Son of singer Roberta Sherwood, this episode marked one of many television appearances Lanning did in the sixties. Seen as a talent waiting for his big break, Lanning would appear also on The Lucy Show and play Joe Hardy on a television remake of Damn Yankees. Lanning, however, never caught in with audiences and never received any appreciable stardom. Likewise the cast did not care for this episode as it only existed to showcase Lanning's talent.
- GoofsAt the end of the episode, "Classy" Freddy Blassie is introduced as the World Heavyweight Champion wrestler. Blassie held the WWA title, which was recognized in Los Angeles, but not the New York area. The NWA title, then held by "Nature Boy" Buddy Rogers, would have been promoted; thus, revealing that the show was filmed in California and not New York. Blassie was the top draw in LA at the time, as well as a top star in Japan. He did not wrestle in New York, regularly, until later.

This isn't a bad show, but I could see why the actors didn't like this episode.
This episode was meant to showcase an up and coming singing sensation meant for stardom, Jerry Lanning. While Lanning as a beautiful voice in the show, he never turned into the teen singing sensation folks wished he'd been. But because the show was meant primarily to showcase his talents, the rest of the cast take a definite backseat and the overall style of the episode is not at all like "The Dick Van Dyke Show". As a result, the series regulars apparently hated the episode.
Sally is insanely positive about some new singing sensation she's discovered at a bowling alley, Randy Twizzle. She insists Rob, Buddy and Mel listen to him sing a catchy ditty...and soon he's signed to appear on "The Alan Brady Show". However, after talking with his agent, Randy wants to back out...but not for the reasons anyone anticipated.
Lanning is a nice looking teen with a great voice. But if that isn't what you are looking for, you're likely to be disappointed. Overall, not a terrible show but one so atypical I can see why many were not impressed.
