The Canteen staff prepare for their annual Christmas party, Tony and Bren seem close to finally take the plunge, but there's a spanner in the works, in the shape of Petula Gordino.

It's a masterclass in one liners, it's a hilarious, wonderful episode, one of my favourites, Petula as she always does steals the show, Victoria Wood was so selfless with her writing, so often giving the best lines to others, Petula discussing her lost love Clint for one. This time though it's Jean who delivers the knockout line, discussing her favourite perfume.

Wonderful, zany characters, Babs and Tiffany are a scream.

Wonderful, 9/10.

Warning: Spoilers
The Company is involved in a merger with a Japanese firm, and they are keen to suck up to their new corporate partners. So the Christmas Party has an oriental theme, instead of the usual dodgy company doo.

Bren's mum asked to be sponsored in the Kalahara though she'll "probably Peg out halfway".

Everyone is in somewhat of a two 'n eight for the Party, with Stan insisting on bringing part of his whig collection.

Tony wants to go with Bren but instead of actually asking her, he stupidly lets Bren' s mum Petula bring him a hot date. Petula as usual can't be trusted, and Tony's date Babs is anything but hot.

We finally meet Dolly and Jean's other half who when they are together, the husbands are virtually deaf and dumb.

Anita and Twink come to the Party all dolled up with a boy friend Hugo and a girl friend. But halfway through Anita gets drunk and, disappeared to the Bog. Twink, friend and Hugo get bored with the oldies, and decided to nip out before the end to another party.
