"Good God! They're Enormous!"
ShadeGrenade30 October 2006
Warning: Spoilers
Duncan, Dick and Paul chastise Bingham for admiring some candid photos of a female patient. "Just because one is on a diet, it doesn't mean one can't look at the menu.", he tells them. They seem impressed by this unexpected display of wit.

Loftus' big day has arrived. Bingham has booked a Rolls Royce, but Paul is so disgusted by his obsequiousness he cancels it, forcing the Professor to travel in Duncan's car.

En route to Buckingham Palace, they run out of petrol. In desperation, they send for a St.Swithins' ambulance. Unfortunately, another ambulance is being used by bank robbers making a getaway. A high-speed chase ensues...

Funniest moment - a finale straight out of 'The Lavender Hill Mob'. As the ambulances and police cars endlessly circle a roundabout, the strains of 'Carousel' can be heard on the soundtrack.

This was the last episode of the first season of 'In Charge'. The show had pulled off the seemingly impossible feat of successfully replacing its original leading man. It was also the last to be written by Graeme Garden and Bill Oddie, who left to devote their energies exclusively to 'The Goodies' ( Oddie returned in 1991 to pen episodes of the ill-fated 'Doctor At The Top' ).

Of the 27 episodes made, only three were out-and-out stinkers, not a bad average.

With Robin Nedwell 'In Charge', the show had found its feet, and the cast stayed the same for the next season. But there was a blip on the horizon - Richard O'Sullivan had been offered a sitcom of his own, a Johnnie Mortimer and Brian Cooke creation entitled 'Man About The House'...
