Mary (Shelley Fabares) receives bad news from her friend Melinda Powell (as Babs Keppler), who believes her parents have come to "the parting of the ways," after an argument. Donna (Donna Reed) catches an apple-munching Jeff (Paul Peterson) eavesdropping on his sister's conversation, and he "spills the beans" to Donna. When told about the separation of Mary Lawrence and Pat McCaffrie (as Myra and Jack Keppler), Alex (Carl Betz) advises Donna not to meddle. Then, Donna is afraid the Stones might "drift apart" if they don't spend more time together. A card game of "Hearts" turns into a family fight, however; and, the kids think Donna and Alex may be the next couple to split up. Nothing special about this episode, but it's nicely done.
