- Dr. Mike's elation at Colleen's acceptance to medical school quickly turns to disappointment when Colleen chooses to marry Andrew before starting school. A bitter family argument erupts when Dr. Mike tells Colleen that she is less than overjoyed at her announcement and feels that the couple is rushing into marriage and should wait until Colleen completes medical school. Meanwhile, Jake's sale of his half of the Golden Nugget to Preston angers Hank; Robert E and Grace have wonderful news to share; the stock market crash hits Preston and the townsfolk hard, and Dorothy and Cloud Dancing reach a new level in their relationship.
- Dr. Mike's (Jane Seymour) elation at Colleen's (Jessica Bowman) acceptance to the Women's Medical College of Pennsylvania (Dr. Mike's alma mater) quickly turns to disappointment when Colleen also chooses to marry Andrew (Brandon Douglas) as Dr. Mike is worried that the marriage will interfere with medical school.
Dr. Mike tells Colleen she is rushing into marriage and implores her to wait until after completing medical school. After thinking about events that have happened in Colorado Springs over the last years, including the deaths of her sister and of Matthew's fiancee, Dr. Mike changes her mind and encourages Colleen to do what makes her happy.
Meanwhile, the stock market crash hits the town hard. Preston (Jason Leland Adams) has invested the bank's money in the stock market and is unable to repay the citizens. Horace (Frank Collison) and the church had both put their money in Preston's bank. Sully (Joe Lando) is able to find an investor to buy the Chateau Springs and Health Resort.
Colleen and Andrew go ahead and get married but Colleen still plans to attend medical school. Andrew plans on quitting his job at the Chateau and starting a medical practice in Philadelphia.
Grace (Jonelle Allen) reveals to Robert E. (Henry G. Sanders) that they are going to be parents.
Jake (Jim Knobeloch) sells his interest in the Gold Nugget hotel to Preston and reveals plans to build a new home for his wife.
Hank (William Shockley) is now the sole proprietor of the Gold Nugget as Preston was forced to sell the interest he just bought from Jake to Hank.
Preston also calls in his loan to Dorothy (Barbara Babcock) for the Gazette. But, Loren (Orson Bean) contacts his bank in Denver to take out a loan against his store and loans Dorothy the money to keep the Gazette.
