- As Dr. Quinn is trying to tell the townspeople that smallpox vaccinations are crucial, the father of her adopted children appears in town. He appears swave and debonair, attempting to charm & woo Dr. Quinn, especially after he tells the children that he is taking them to San Francisco.
***SPOILER ALERT ***But after an auction to raise money for the town to build a school, he slips into the church and steals the money. Sully and Mike catch up to him, making him leave the area and return the money to the church.
All the while, she is trying to convince the local women's group to get their children vaccinated for small pox, running into interference from Olive, the headstrong 'leader' of the group. Harriette, one of the mothers in the group, came over to Dr. Mike's house to vaccinate her children in the cover of darkness to hide it from the others in the group, and she appeared sick with a pain in her stomach. When she died of appendicitis a few days later, Dr. Mike feels terrible regret. This helps endear her to the women's group as she admits that she doesn't have all of the answers and she should have caught the symptoms for what they were.
