Angelman's disease, now known as Angelman syndrome due to the discovery of it being a congenital condition and not an acquired one, is a genetic disorder of the nervous system. Symptoms include a smaller than normal head, telecanthus (increased distance between the eyes), pronounced epicanthic fold (skin fold of upper eyelid), widened mouth, developmental delays, severe intellectual disability, limited speech (sometimes none), balance and movement issues, seizures and difficulty sleeping. Children with the disorder almost always have a happy demeanor and frequently are smiling, laughing and clapping their hands (hence why it used to be called happy puppet's disease), they also usually have an unusual interest in water. Research done in 1987 showed that the condition is caused by a mutation in one of the genes on chromosome 15, additional research done in the late 90's (like the research George Henry mentioned) identified the specific gene mutation that causes the disorder, it is due to the lack of the UBE3A gene. This is almost always a random mutation that happens during gestation but it rarely can be caused by inheriting an extra copy of the UBE3A gene from the father but none from the mother. There is no known cure, the epileptic seizures can be treated with anti-seizure medications and occupation therapy can be done to help with communication and movement issues.
Maria Bello, Alex Kingston and Mariska Hargitay also appeared in Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (1999) episode Trophy (2010).
Per the title, for good luck the bride must wear something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.
