The 1973 Ward LaFrance fire engine was donated to Universal by the company as a marketing tool to show off the engine to prospective buyers who watch the show. It was not a mock up but a real working fire engine which was put into service years later by the Yosemite National Park fire department until it's retirement. It now sits in the LaCoFD museum alongside an original squad and the original Engine 51
First appearance of the new 1973 Ward La France P-80 "Ambassador" Pumper Engine in the show.
The new Ward LaFrance engine from this episode forward was actually not built to LA Co Fire specs. It was built for a department in Florida. It was delivered to that department and had had to be picked up and was driven across country by fireman Mike Stoker. The color was NOT LA Co Fire red and only has one reel hose, LA Co Fire Ward LaFrance engines had TWO reels. This information was obtained during a visit to the LA Co Fire Museum.
The old engine is actually a 1932 Dennis, an old British fire engine that was never used in the States, even though it was said to have survived the Long Beach Earthquake of 1933. No explanation is given as to why the department would use an engine with right-hand drive.
Initial appearance of the first upgrade of Rampart's communications station, with new equipment, scanner, and status board.
