The occupants of the burning building are told to use "the middle elevator". In a later scene, we see people coming off multiple elevators in the lobby.
According to the building codes of the United States and many other countries, elevators are never to be used as a means of escaping a fire in any building no matter what it's height. Exit signs are posted everywhere on each floor to direct tenants or residence to the nearest fire escape or stairwell. You would never see crowds of people coming off an elevator. There is too great of a risk of a fire getting into the elevator shaft and spreading due to the updraft created in the shaft. There would also be too much smoke which would suffocate anyone using an elevator.
Correction: The main reason for not using elevators in a burning building is that the heat of the fire can short circuit the buttons and cause the elevator to stop and open the door on a floor that is heavily involved. The sudden heat and smoke can kill everyone in the elevator almost instantly.

Fire fighters are seen checking for hot doors using the palms of their hands. The proper way is to use the back of the hand. First, the back of the hand is more sensitive to heat. Second, if the heat blisters the palm, the fire fighter would not be able to handle equipment or grab things. Damage to the back of the hand may be uncomfortable, but would not put the fire fighter out of action.
A burn pattern from ignitable liquid splashed on the wall by the effects department is visible in the stairwell scenes.
A raging fire is burning, yet no flames are seen in windows in any exterior views, just smoke coming out of the roof.
So - made in the 70's, so yeah, no elevator. But as of 9/11, they're rethinking that for disabled folks.
But worse, IMO, is Gage (?) not opening the inner door of the office before putting the all-clear sticker.

The sounds of the sirens on some of the fire trucks do not match the sounds of the models of sirens actually mounted upon the fire trucks.
