- Enterprise discovers a pod with the body of a human that seems to be wanted by both Sulibans and Tholians.
- Enterprise discovers a strange pod. After towing it in, the doctor confirms the dead pilot is human. Captain Archer suspects this man may be Zefram Cochrane, who developed the warp drive on earth, and disappeared with an experimental ship. When Tucker and Reed discover a stairway in the ship that is bigger than the ship itself and Phlox finds out the man's DNA contains several alien genomes, they begin to suspect there's something more to it. Then Suliban as well as Tholian ships appear on the scene. They want to have the pod and don't take no for an answer.—Arnoud Tiele (imdb@tiele.nl)
- The discovery of a derelict pod with a long-dead human pilot opens up a mystery. Some of the crew speculate he is the first human to invent warp drive technology, Zefram Cochrane (who had disappeared after his demo warp flight), but DNA profiling reveal the remains are not his. Commander Tucker and Lieutenant Reed examine the mysterious pod (which is futuristic in design and seems to absorb all EM radiation, has no plasma exhaust ports or even a thrust generating quad or even a power source) and discover, via a floor panel, that it is larger on the inside than the outside. They also recover a device from the core which still has a weak energy signature. Shortly afterwards, a Suliban ship arrives and claims salvage rights, but Captain Archer refuses to yield it without explanation. They open fire, and beam in a boarding party, but are finally repelled. The Sulibans cloak their ship after the Enterprise damage their weapons systems.
Undaunted, Enterprise then sets course to rendezvous with Tal'Kir, a Vulcan ship. They will meet in 3 days and Tal'Kir will take the craft back to Earth. Doctor Phlox's scans reveal the dead pilot has multi-generational DNA fragments from several alien species including Vulcan, Terrelian, and Rigelian. The pilot was a result of several generations of inter species breeding. Seeking answers, Archer and Sub-Commander T'Pol enter time-traveler Agent Daniels' cabin, and they learn from his Enclyopedic database that the pod is from the 31st century. The pod is powered by a temporal displacement device. Meanwhile, Tucker and Reed, on returning to the pod, get stuck in a recurring time-loop (which resets time every-time the duo open the side hatch of the pod). This heightens T'Pol's concerns and she discusses the situation with Archer (she wants Archer to destroy the vessel), who feels they must have more information on the Temporal Cold War.
Tholians arrive (They are extremely xenophobic and very unusual for them to travel so far from their system), demanding the pod and warning Enterprise of temporal radiation. Again, Archer refuses, and they leave after he threatens to destroy it (after the Tholians grab the Enterprise with a tractor beam). Meanwhile Reed and Tucker figure out that device powered by the core is an emergency beacon of some kind.
The crew, reaching the rendezvous destination, discover that the Tholians have disabled the Tal'Kir, and soon disable Enterprise as well. The Suliban arrive with many ships and a battle ensues between them and the Tholians. The Tholians succeed in destroying the Suliban ships. Archer asks Reed to get the emergency beacon working, so they can summon help from the future.. After working through another time-loop, Archer and Reed booby-trap the pod (with a weapon from one of their torpedoes) and send it out into space, but the Tholians immediately disarm the device. Tucker then gets the temporal distress beacon to power up, and soon the future ship and its contents de-materialize. The Tholians leave, and Enterprise assists the Vulcan ship, as Archer's way of thanking the Vulcan High Command for their support and help.
