This episode was Annie Wersching's on-screen debut. 20 years later, her final on-screen appearance would also be in Star Trek, playing the Borg Queen in Hide and Seek (2022). Wersching passed away on January 29, 2023.
Rene Auberjonois (Ezral) previously played Constable Odo in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine (1993) and Colonel West in Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) (scenes were cut from theatrical version, but included in some VHS and broadcast versions, and Director's Edition).
Ezral and Liana are also very similar to the characters of Prospero and Miranda from William Shakespeare's The Tempest and the characters of Dr. Edward Morbius and Altaira Morbius in the groundbreaking film Forbidden Planet (1956), which was largely based on The Tempest (Forbidden Planet, in turn, was also a source of inspiration for The Cage (1966). They also share similarities with Flint and Rayna Kapec from Requiem for Methuselah (1969).
While talking with Trip Tucker, T'Pol references his escapade with the female Xyrillian engineer seen in Unexpected (2001).
Archer asks Travis Mayweather if this is turning into one of his famous ghost stories. Mayweather previously told ghost stories in Strange New World (2001).
