- Debra decides to go back to her PR job for part-time. She feels that all of her friends have a career and their own identity, but hers is only defined by her husband and her kids. Debra argues that the kids are at playschool 5 days a week and Ray did a fantastic job of the keeping the house clean and getting the kids into bed on time. Debra starts preparing for an interview that she has lined up for herself. Marie is not happy as kids will suffer, and Ray isn't happy as he will have to spend more time around the house. Debra warns Marie not to make her feel guilty about this. Robert is very supportive of Debra and calls Ray and Marie a family of dream Squashers. Robert says that his own family never supported his ambition for drums, major league baseball or a career in space.
Debra finds a job in Manhattan. She has an hour-long commute each way and Debra is looking forward to reading in solitude. She has a female boss and is looking forward to bonding over everything with her. She has to go to the office 2 days a week, and she will be a copy writer. It is a small agency, and it is only Debra, her boss and a receptionist.
She also figures out Ray is not supportive as he doesn't want to help out around the house. Ray says that he makes enough money to support the entire family. Debra gets fired on the very first day. Debra spent time on Ally's school stuff for a few minutes and was called out by her boss. Debra says that she hates the career woman types and thinks they are out to make everyone's life miserable since their own is so bad.
Ray who has trouble looking after the kids is secretly happy. He then feels bad for Debra and tries to get her job back. He meets her boss Charlotte (Julie Hagerty) and figures out that Debra was fired as she did a bad job on her first creative for a pizza company. Debra created a cartoon character named "Professor Pete-Za" with a mozzarella cheese hat, which was not at all in line with the sophistication client was looking for in their campaign. Charlotte says that Debra was not open to any feedback and was a bit inflexible about incorporating any suggestions. Charlotte says that Debra was a little stubborn. Ray backs Debra and tells Charlotte that Debra is a hard worker and puts up with a lot at home. He says they have 7 kids at home and in-laws who live right across the street.
Debra is embarrassed to find that Ray groveled to Charlotte to beg for her job back. She defends her work for the pizza company, but Ray tells her that it was bad which makes Debra cry. She thanks Ray for being supportive but refuses to go back to work. Marie applies for the job instead and is rejected as she has no PR experience.
