To This Day, This Remains A Fascinating Case
ccthemovieman-129 November 2009
A big copier machine is wheeled into Harvey's Casino early in the morning. The trouble is, it was a bomb, not a copier. That's what a security guard discovers and soon, there is big trouble and concern in this beautiful town of Lake Tahoe in 1980. An extortion note, next to the big device, says the metal rectangular box is full of TNT, a thousand pounds of it, and he wants 3 million dollars. extortion plot against Harvey Gross, owner of Harvey's at State line Nevada.

It's a good thing the people who wrote the extortion note were bluffing about the TNT. I didn't realize ( but this program pointed it out) how much more powerful it was than dynamite. Still, 1000 pounds of dynamite did some serious damage, as viewers will see in the end.

How the perpetrator rigged this "copier" into a huge bomb and how difficult it was for the FBI and others to figure out what to do with it, is pretty amazing. I can't recall ever hearing of a bomb that so baffled experts like this one.

The part about the helicopter and the supposed "drop" of the money, also is very interesting with a result being not what is expected.

To this day, this remains a very interesting crime saga and "F.B.I. Files" did a good job with it.
