This episode makes you hope the FBI have gotten a lot smarter

Chances are no one will ever see this review. The episode is 19 years old and the case is over 30 years old and I'm the first review on this episode. I normally admire the FBI thus the FBI Files are something I periodically watch. But in S6 E5 about the K-Street Killers I couldn't believe all the incredibly dumb things that happened on this investigation! They put a witness in Witness Protection and told her not to go to see anyone she has known in the past. Ok, so she failed to heed that warning. But why was she even close enough to attend a party where she would be recognized? And being so close, why was she not being protected -- the Feds were relying on her yet didn't have anyone on her to make sure she didn't do something stupid before the trial?

The FBI is so focused on their infiltration of the gang they neglect to realize someone on the inside is giving the gang info about witnesses, which is never mentioned but is very obvious. I know a little bit about hiring private detectives and they are not that fast or that well connected without someone on the inside informing.

Then they finally get another witness and he pleads with them to keep him safe. So they put him in a hospital under the super obvious name of John Doe. SERIOUSLY? He gets executed by the gang. Then after the gang leader explicitly tells them one of his clients thinks they are cops, they drive straight back to the FBI headquarters. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? These are trained agents. Didn't they call it in and get advised by someone higher up who might have told them to play it cool after being outed since they were too stupid to add 2+2? Not only that, the agents were planning to just keep going as if they weren't already made. The narrator tells us they thought Hill didn't believe the client and that nothing would change. They could have been ambushed and killed. Hill spared their lives.

This episode was so unbelievably frustrating. I bet some of these episodes are used in FBI training on what NOT to do.
