At first, he wanders like a nomad around the countryside, pretending to be different people, including Lord Wesley Amhurst. His impersonation fools the lovely Jean Timpkins ( Anne Cunningham ), who tries to seduce him.
Bored, he heads back to Sunshine Desserts - in disguise, of course. At a pub, he is appalled to find C.J., David Harris-Jones and Tony Webster barely acknowledging his existence.
At his former home, he learns from a neighbour that Elisabeth is seeing her old sweetheart Henry Possett. Deciding to come in from the cold, Reggie goes to see daughter Linda...
Supposing you had 'died' but were able to come back as someone else? Reggie does that here, with a series of characters that look straight of 'The Dick Emery Show' including a comic Welshman and an Italian tourist with big teeth. It is only when he adopts the persona of 'lazy, criminal drunkard' Donald Potts that the episode gets into first gear. Potts/Perrin moves into a boarding house where all the lights go off whenever the landlady watches B.B.C.-2. Here he meets Miss Pershore ( the late Charmian May ), a batty spinster who offers him her virginity, which he understandably refuses. Reggie's loneliness is assuaged in the form of letters written to Elisabeth. These cannot be sent, of course.
Linda Cunningham, who plays 'Jean', was Elsie Tanner's daughter 'Linda Cheveski' in 'Coronation Street'. 'Henry Possett' is John Forbes-Robertson, who was 'Count Dracula' in Hammer's 'The Legend Of The Seven Golden Vampires'. Why Elisabeth wants to marry him is difficult to fathom. He is even creepier than C.J.
Funniest moment - Reggie, now working at a sewage farm, falls in the stuff and gets up commuters' noses when he catches the bus home.
