Peter tells Chris to call him Rooster Cogburn when they are hunting. This is a reference to the character Reuben J. "Rooster" Cogburn from the 1968 novel "True Grit" by Charles Portis. The character of Rooster was played by John Wayne and Jeff Bridges in the 1969 and 2010 film adaptations of "True Grit."
The character playing darts with Peter, who then ends up in a fight with his wife Flo is a reference to the British comic strip Andy Capp.
