- During Black History Month, Laura and Urkel hope their fellow students will gain appreciation for other cultures and races with a new class. But all they get is a bunch of threats from a few racist classmates. Laura breaks down in tears and feels sorry for herself, but Estelle's story behind her first library card gives her new inspiration.—Brian Rathjen <briguy_52732@yahoo.com>
- Laura becomes very interested in Black History month at school and has an idea to pledge for a Black History class. The next day, she creates a petition for her classmates to sign who are interested in the class. Steve convinces the basketball team to sign the Black History class, after demonstrating how good he is at basketball. Then, both Laura and him finds her locker open with a note reading "If you want Black History, go back to Africa" along with a racial slur in black letters spray-painted on her locker. Urkel is upset and determined to find whoever is responsible for hurting his love and make them pay for it.
Laura is upset over the situation for a few days and feels horrible over the next few days as the school becomes racially divided. Carl is upset at the racial injustice that she's got at the school. When he and Harriette's attempt for her to keep trying failed. It was Mother Winslow who successfully gets through to her by telling her a story about when she was younger and how they wouldn't let her into the library and how she went back every single day until they let her in, which they did. She then shows Laura her library card, which inspires her to keep trying to make a difference. The next day, Laura and Maxine put up posters featuring prominent black men. This causes the students to become interested and ends the racial diffrence around the school. Within a few days her petition to have a new Black History class is formed.
Meanwhile, Carl has ignored his family's recommendation to save them the trouble by opening up his wallet and buying another vacuum cleaner. He attempts to fix the old vacuum cleaner himself since it's cheaper and hadn't have too much success
