Zhaan is a plant!
Tweekums22 May 2012
Warning: Spoilers
While hiding from Crais' scans in an asteroid field Moya receives a message from a female alien called M'Lee, claiming that she is under attack from a dangerous creature. Once the scan has finished in their area Crichton, D'Argo and Zhaan head to the asteroid the signal came from. They find it covered in plants but there is no animal life; at least until they meet the M'Lee; shortly after they meet the creature attacks and in the fight that follows the transport pod is damaged leaving them stranded until it can be repaired. Things get more dangerous when it becomes apparent that M'Lee is the real dangerous creature; her species feed on bones and had devoured every creature there; even the team of botanist, of which the other 'creature' was part. He is Br'Nee; a skilled botanist collecting samples... he is a potential danger to as unknown to Crichton, or the viewer, Zhaan is actually a plant! Meanwhile on Crais' Command Carrier Scorpius is starting to usurp Crais' authority and there is nothing Crais can do about it.

After the previous two part story I'd thought we might return to the previous 'threat of the week' storyline and in some ways that did happen with the events on the asteroid; the threat from Scorpius a Crais prevented it being entirely such an episode though as did the events on Moya's offspring. The biggest surprise of the episode was learning that Zhaan is in fact a plant; even though it has no real affect on her character it was a surprise. The events on the asteroid were fairly exciting and had a resolution I certainly hadn't expected. The scenes between Crais and Scorpius were some of the best in the episode; it is clear that Crais' power is rapidly slipping away from him... Lani Tupu did a fine job portraying Crais; a man who had risen to the top and may be about to lose it all.
