Gigi nothing less than fantastic

The main cast of this series is very charismatic. And for me it is impossible to stay indifferent to Claudia Black and Virginia Hey. Then Gigi appears. Magnificent in her silvery shades of grey. What a sensual woman and incredible actress! In my opinion she just stole the scene as an amoral free spirit. I dunno how this series developed from this point, but this was a clear highlight.

Chiana joins the crew

Warning: Spoilers
After an unexpected starburst Moya collides with an unidentified vessel; as the other ship is damaged they bring it on board and are shocked to discover that one of the people on board is Captain Selto Durka; a man everybody believed had died a hundred years ago on the Zelbinion; they had even seen his body in the episode 'PK Tech Girl'... he is not the man he once was though; he was captured by a species known as the Nebari and brainwashed into a submissive state. The other two people are Nebari, the ship's captain Salis and a prisoner by the name of Chiana; her crime is to wish to keep her free will. Rygel is understandably not pleased that his torturer is still alive so attempts to kill him; the problem is he fails but the bomb somehow breaks the Nebari programming and Durka manages to take over Moya. He takes Rygel and Aeryn hostage and threatens to kill them if the others don't let him starburst out of Nebari space; the problem is Moya can't starburst for some time because of her pregnancy. When Salis is found dead it is assumed Durka killed him but they know they will all be in danger from the Nebari when they turn up and find him dead; perhaps their best chance of survival will involve working with Chiana; after all she can't be all that dangerous; can she?

This is one of my favourite episodes to date; largely because it introduces us to Chiana; the first new crew-member since the opening episode but also because it is an exciting episode with a great villain. David Wheeler does a fine job as the evil Durka; he is one of the most unpleasant villains to date. New cast member Gigi Edgley puts in a great performance as Chiana; she has a greater sense of mystery than the other crew members; there is a sense that she could be dangerous and might not be trustworthy. It is just a shame that we don't see more of her species; if they could destroy the Zelbinion they must be a formidable race... perhaps too formidable to reappear without making the main bad guys seen feeble!
