While Father Dowling is in the hospital for tonsil surgery he becomes convinced that the patient in the next bed was murdered overnight. While investigating, he and Stephanie uncover a larger conspiracy.

The father and Sister Stevie really have a knack for evading the bad guys or anyone trying to stop them from snooping around - and their snooping pays off. They learn that dead bodies are big business. There's a funny line when they find some money in the lining of the coffin. "Well, I was wrong you can take it with you," says Father Dowling. This is a fun episode with some good tension.

Father Dowling goes to the hospital and has to get his tonsil out. While there a man in the next bed ask for his blessing. During the night a nurse insist that Father Dowling take sleeping pills which he does not want. He takes the pills to get her to leave. Later he partially wakens to see someone with a heavy gold bracelet give his roommate Newton a shot. The next day the man is dead. Father suspects murder.

Father insist on going home. His gets released by his doctor, Dr Riley. He tries to get info on the man to see how the man died.

The doctors and nurses that Father talk to and Sister Steve won't say much. They all seem suspicious. It appears that there is money collected for poor people health care in the hospital but they are not benefiting from it. Also a lot of the poor dead people are picked up in a hearse and brought to a certain place to be put in a casket and shipped to another state.

Father and Sister do their own investigation. There are very tense scenes in this episode and very creative and funny ways of them not being found and also getting away from killers.

This is a good episode.

As an aside --> there is a Catholic Church in the Wooster St area (not as big or glamorous as the one in Chicago where Father Dowling takes place) of New Haven, Connecticut where I grew up years ago. It was in a neighborhood predominately Italian with many Italian businesses including, pastry shops, pizza places, and 4 or 5 funeral homes. St Michael's Church in this series reminds me of St Michael's Church on Wooster Sq, which also had a Catholic school.

There was a club called the Son's of Italy for Italian men to meet and play cards. There were a few mobster type people but they were involved as bookies taking bets illegally. When I see series I can identify with it but not with the fact that they make the Italians all mobsters. I grew up in a big Italian family. They were hard working. Some were educated mostly the men. Some other Italian families worked in small factories with no good working conditions. So not all Italians are mob connected. Then or now.

I will always remember my younger life, it was very loving and good with Italian relatives and friends and St Michael's played an important part in me and my families upbringing.
