Kids, Face Up To Your Problems

In this 1955 episode of "Father Knows Best", Jim Anderson makes a point of teaching all 3 of his children a lesson about standing up to their fears and doubts and facing them head-on.

Yes. This episode's message was definitely a relevant one and it was handled quite thoughtfully.

Jim passes the buck

This started out with an interesting premise, which was about kids facing their fears. However, it's ruined when Jim Anderson tries to blame his lack of confidence regarding public speaking on his kids not facing their fears. This is more a case of children emulating their father. The plot would have been better had Jim led through example, and had faced his trepidation of public speaking. This would have sent a better message to Betty, Bud and Kathy than his little self-serving diatribe. They would seen that true courage is moving forward despite your fears, and realizing that failure is not the worst thing in life.
