Sister Bertrille receives a letter from her sister Jennifer (Elinor Donahue, "Father Knows Best", '"The Andy Griffith Show") saying she is coming to stay for a few days. She is an obstetrician on her way to volunteer for the peace corps in Brazil. It is revealed that Sister Bertrille's family are all in the medical field and that her name before joining the convent was Elsie Ethrington. On Jennifer's flight to San Juan she meets Carlos who tries to woo her. When Sister Bertrille finds the man that Jennifer is going out with is Carlos she barges in his apartment to find an innocent scene. She later finds that Carlos has proposed to Jennifer. Reverend Mother Placido offers Jennifer's services to a small Puerto Rican village in need of a doctor for a man who has been bitten by a rabid dog. She asks Sister Bertrille to accompany Jennifer and have Carlos fly them to the interior. Jennifer is resistant to Carlos' proposal, but he hopes the time together will change her mind. An injury complicates his plans.
