The convent is compiling a list of local responsible men for the San Tanco Dads, a group that will play father to the orphan boys once a week. Reverend Mother Placido feels Sister Bertrille shouldn't ask Carlos after all she has put him through. He has suffered a back injury that Sister Bertrille is responsible for. Carlos can't tell her off "once and for all" after she introduces him to her visiting cousin Regina Atwater (Sandra Smith). Carlos is upset that he hasn't been asked to be a San Tanco Dad and feels he needs to change his image, one that Regina would approve of as well. His sudden, complete change surprises the convent- and Regina.
The plot conflict doesn't quite get off the ground until the end. Even though its been established that Carlos would go to any length to woo a girl he likes, his other reason to change (not being asked to be a San Tanco Dad) is a bit of a stretch. Also, the group's logo "STD" on baseball hats and badges may strike today's viewers odd for obvious reasons.
