The small, poor, sleepy village of Esperanza is excited for the marriage of widower Luis Armejo (Nico Minardos) to Manuela Garcia (Arlene Martel). Especially excited is Luis' young son Tonio (Jean-Michel Michenaud) who while picking flowers spots Sister Bertrille flying. He mistakes her for his mother who has flown from Heaven, as they share a close resemblance. Luis is upset by his son's claim and Manuela now doubts if Tonio wants her in their lives. Despite talks from others, Tonio is steadfast in his belief that she is his mother. Sister Bertrille is touched by how much it means to the boy "to know his mother loves him as much as he's loved her all these years" and can't "find the right way to take away something that means so much to him." Manuela has Tonio's welfare at heart and insists Luis handle the matter carefully. She feels the wedding should be called off under the circumstances. Sister Bertrille struggles to find a way to tell Tonio that she isn't his mother. The need is even more apparent when Manuela decides to leave the village.
A touching, dramatic episode with heart. I consider this the best episode in the series to this point. It's a realization that "The Flying Nun" may have been more successful as an uplifting (no pun intended) dramatic series in the vein of "Touched by an Angel".
