A few flaws, but a neat mystery.

Collier meets up with his friend, Ernst Frenke, an old war hero, who's visit to Paris isn't just a holiday, he's on an important diplomatic mission to purchases planes for his country. The alarm is raised when Ernst's son is kidnapped, and a ransom note is left.

It's a pretty good, clever mystery,I must admit I was expecting this episode to feature Poccari, and it was not set in Italy.

I think we learnt that Ernst represents some small, troubled Eastern European state, and that his mission is of significant importance, what did confuse me a little, was how uninterested he was by the kidnapping, that was somewhat bizarre.

I think the mission to track down the speaking voice was perhaps a little tongue in cheek.

The whole thing is definitely elevated by George Murcell, what a wonderful character actor, Ernst was definitely an interesting character, I wish we'd gotten to learn the link between him and Collier.

The moral of the story, always have your marbles with you.

6/10.

The Godfather

With that episode title. It was a shame that Richard Conte did not feature. One of the main villain's from The Godfather!

Instead Tim Collier goes to visit his old friend Ernst Frenke that he has not seen for some years and Tim's godson Joshua. It is not a random visit, Tim has got a tip off from Ben Manfred.

Ernst Frenke is a war hero and he is on a mission to Paris. The kind where he would be disavowed if he is caught.

Suddenly the Frenke's are contacted by Joshua's real mother who wants to see her son. Later Joshua is gone missing. The Frenke's receive a ransom demand for one million dollars.

Tim Collier wants to help track down his godson. He knows it is linked with Ernst's presence in Paris. He had arrived in Paris with one million dollars to buy jet fighters for his country that is suffering from an arms embargo.

Collier knows that one of the people middle men arms dealers is involved with the kidnapping. Get the money from Ernst that he is carrying without the bother of exchanging it for arms.

A neat little episode. I liked how Collier went to the various arms dealers to see if they had the right voice. It was just a shame that Frenke's country remained unnamed.
