Among the best episodes of the whole run
phillipsbg17 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
In the pantheon of great Frasier episodes, most will naturally be from the earlier seasons, but they keep coming right until the end of the run, even if they do get less frequent. This is right up there, even just on the basis of the gag about playing the same character for 20 years, which is perfect and basically unique. It took 20 years to set up that gag...

Laurie Metcalfe is brilliant and it's always a treat to delve into Frasier's past (because so much of it is on screen). The final act is frantic and absurd and farcical and completely hilarious in the truest tradition of the comedy farce, piling laugh on top of laugh. A great episode.

Nannie G give me a hug.

'Fraser' was a series that allowed its guess stars to shine brightly and this show has the dazzling Laurie Metcalf. Playing a role from Frasers 'Cheers' past Metcalf is Nannie G his first wife. Playing the same role for 20 years was tough on her (but good for Kelsey Grammar). Nannie G has become part Shari Lewis (who didn't love her), part Marilyn Chambers (the girl next door ever guy wishes he had as a neighbor) and part Norma Desmond (the woman you really need to stay away from). Metcalf shows off some musical theater background and is hilarious through out the whole show.

Nanny-G

I don't know. I was so uncomfortable through this whole thing. Frasier lets his libido reign supreme again, getting himself into another mess. Nanny-G, his ex appeared in an episode of Cheers way back. There is a primal spark. But the plot and the final scene made me a little woozy.

"Daddy horny, Michael"

Over the course of the series, Frasier Crane becomes less and less the dignified psychiatrist and more and more someone closely resembling George Bluth when separated from his wife or secretary. (Thus the Arrested Development title reference).

Listening to a 45 year old man whine about his lack of erotic action is not an appealing premise for a show. The better parts of this series were when Frasier played the gentleman and yet, unfortunately, often lost out on love. You knew he was a good guy and you rooted for him. These episodes, however, you root for him the way you would if you were drunken co-workers at a work conference in Vegas, hoping your buddy hooks up with one of the casino girls because you cant do it yourself. It's just sad and embarrassing seeing ANY man act like this, and especially one that's supposed to be refined and prestigious.

The problem is that as the show went on they seemed to run out of the inspired snafu-driven story dilemmas, and tried instead to intertwine the simple-minded sex-plots common in bargain basement sitcoms.

This episode does have some funny moments, and, in spite of the lecherous route they took in getting there, the climactic scene was humorous. Unfortunately, this episode, like so many others of the later seasons, wallowed too much in ignorant sleaze and not enough in the brilliant storylines sustained throughout the full 22 minutes of better episodes.

Caught in the Act

Warning: Spoilers
Even great writers write bad episodes from time to time. This is an example of one such episode from Joe Keenan.

The frustrating thing is that this episode had such promise, but rather throws it all away for a succession of weak gags, and increasingly silly situations. I know we as an audience are expected to suspend our disbelief, but this stretched that a bit too far.

There are moments, but other than a very good in joke about how long Kelsey Grammer had been playing the same character this episode I'm afraid did not end up doing very much for me.

The eleventh and final series of the show started so well, but has now gone off the boil.

My opinion

Another episode of frasier being a complete pig! I think daphne was the only regular in the show that he didn't sleep with, tho he did peak on her naked and dream about her aswell.. For a 40+ year old therapist he sure did well with woman and that was the shows problem! The writers turned frasier into a womaniser! In this episode he beds a married woman live on stage infront of the husband and loads of kids.. It really did become tacky viewing. Tho comical at times episodes like this really ruined frasiers reputation. In the bigging he was a hopeless romantic but as it went on he was going thru woman like the plague went thru Europe! It still has great comedy moments but personally, I usually skip episodes that involve frasier's love life because its repetitive and that part of the show hasn't aged well because when we first watched the show we loved frasier but watching the reruns you can see he was just a womaniser. Always dumping woman after bedding them, finding the perfect woman everytime and dumping them or even just sleeping with other people's woman. Still a great shoe but this is a forgettable episode and just to goofy to be funny.
