Cab driver Arlene (Charlayne Woodard) gives birth in the cab she is driving, identified by Martin (John Mahoney) as Cab 804. Cab 804 was the legendary cab lamented in a double episode of Taxi (1978). James Burrows directed this episode of 'Frasier', as well as the Taxi episodes Memories of Cab 804: Part 1 (1978) and Memories of Cab 804: Part 2 (1978).
During the cab scene, after Niles (David Hyde Pierce) asks if the meter should still be running, he is accidentally hit in the face by the pregnant cab driver. This was not intended in the script.
When Eddie is attacking the bag of flour, Daphne says in an Australian accent, "That dingo's got your baby," which is a reference to the 1980 incident in Australia of the death of Azaria Chamberlain, whose mother is reported to have exclaimed, "A dingo took my baby!" The phrase most famously had been referenced in the 1991 Seinfeld episode "The Stranded" (season 3, episode 10), wherein Elaine uses an Australian accent to say "Maybe the dingo ate your baby"
The celebrity caller in this episode is Amy Madigan (Maggie) who is unsure what to do with her clingy boyfriend.
This episode, along with the next one requiring a large set for Duke's bar, show Nervosa scenes confined to the back niche by the bookshelves. This is to accommodate the hospital sets which take up much more space in the studio.
