- Narrator: [Act One Opening Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble readying a truck, labeled 'Evergreen Fish Hatchery - Fish Management Division' and preparing to deliver some trout to re-stock a lake in Wisconsin] A trout hatchery, high in the mountains, made to order for Richard Kimble, Fugitive. Far off the main road - a lonely job, too lonely for most men.
- Lt. Gerard: Where is he?
- [Phil doesn't answer]
- Lt. Gerard: Phil?
- Philip Gerard Jr.: Dad, he came back and he helped take off the trap-...
- Lt. Gerard: But which way did he go?
- [Phil is silent]
- Lt. Gerard: Phil, don't you understand, he's wanted for murder!
- Philip Gerard Jr.: He says he didn't do it!
- Lt. Gerard: Of course he says that!
- Philip Gerard Jr.: And if he's right? If *he's* right?
- Lt. Gerard: [pause, then] Well, it means that I'm wrong... doesn't it. Phil?
- Narrator: [Epilog Closing Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble stuffing some football cards into an envelope to be mailed] For Richard Kimble, another shabby room; another lonely night; another reaching out to touch someone he has met along the way.
- [Richard Kimble addresses the envelope: Phil Gerard Jr., 934 South Maple Ave., Stafford]
- Narrator: That is how it is. That is how it must remain. Richard Kimble is a Fugitive.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: You should have stayed with that lady like your father told you to.
- [pauses]
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Do you know who I am?
- [Phil looks at Kimble]
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Well, do ya?
- Philip Gerard Jr.: Your name's Kimble and you killed your wife.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: That's not true.
- Philip Gerard Jr.: My dad says so.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Your dad is wrong.
- Philip Gerard Jr.: You want me to go by what he says.
- [At the trout hatchery Kimble steals Sheriff Deebold's car as Deebold, Gerard, and Jasper move in to arrest him]
- Lt. Philip Gerard: [to Jasper] The car! Where's your car?
- Jasper: It's in town getting fixed!
- Lt. Philip Gerard: What about this truck?
- Sheriff Deebold: We'll never catch him in that thing.
- [Gerard glares at Deebold]
- Sheriff Deebold: Well it ain't my fault!
- Lt. Philip Gerard: You left the keys in the wagon!
- Sheriff Deebold: So that makes me out dumb!
- Lt. Philip Gerard: You think it makes you smart?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: [after confiscating football cards Phil Jr. has been dropping] Football cards. No Johnny Unitas? Every boy oughtta have a Johnny Unitas. How far back have you been dropping them?
- Philip Gerard Jr.: Not far. Honest.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Now listen to me. I'm not your father. And if I killed my wife, I'm dangerous. If I didn't, I'm tired of running. Either way you'll be a smart boy if you just sit there and behave yourself and don't try anything. All right?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: [after Phil Jr. nods in fear] All right.
- Philip Gerard Jr.: My dad... he says the jury was sure.
- Dr. Kimble: People have always been sure, Phil. Sure the world was flat. Sure they could make gold out of lead. They were sure that if a mad dog bit them they'd die. Being sure doesn't make you right.
- Philip Gerard Jr.: [Philip accidentally knocks the rifle over and it's discharge alerts the Park Ranger outside] I didn't mean it! It fell! I didn't mean it!
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Like you didn't mean the cards or the fire.
- Philip Gerard Jr.: Honest, I didn't it on purpose, Didn't you ever get blamed for something you didn't do?
- [pauses]
- Philip Gerard Jr.: I mean...
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Yeah, I know what you mean.
- Lt. Philip Gerard: [speaking with the sheriff about what Kimble will do with Gerard's son] I know him. He'll stop and feed the boy.
- Sheriff Deebold: There's only about a hundred back roads and they don't show on no map.
- Lt. Philip Gerard: Well that copter can make all the difference, a white station wagon on these green hills.
- Sheriff Deebold: Unless Kimble ditches the wagon and goes by shanks mare.
- Jasper: He might. He knows every back trail around here for twenty miles.
- Sheriff Deebold: [self-servingly] I offered to pick him up and hold him.
- Lt. Philip Gerard: [seeing through it] You had your chance.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: [In going through the football cards] Johnny Unitas! Boy to have a Johnny Unitas.
