- Narrator: [Opening Narration. Viewers see Richard Kimble, who is working as a maintenance man, carry a trash can down to the curb] A big city, a jungle of anonymity, where nobody looks too closely and everybody is locked in with his own big problems. A hiding place for a man who, at the moment, calls himself Carl Baker.
- Liz Roland: Hi Carl.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Hello Liz.
- Liz Roland: How goes it?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: It goes.

- Liz Roland: In Venice they just throw it out the windows.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: In Venice they have canals, and every gondola has a vase full of flowers.
- Liz Roland: And a cool breeze from the Adriatic Sea.
- [Kimble nods wryly]
- Liz Roland: We've been around, haven't we?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Here and there.
- Liz Roland: What are we doing here?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: What we have to.
- Liz Roland: Wanna come up for a nice cool drink?
- Dr. Richard Kimble: Maybe later.
- Liz Roland: Well we don't have air conditioning, but we have cross ventilation, and we're far above the madding crowd.
- Mrs. Murdock: You sure know how to treat women. The way you've got that Elizabeth Roland going.
- Dr. Richard Kimble: What do you mean?
- Mrs. Murdock: Being so standoffish. Why don't you give her a break? She's a nice girl. Comes from a fine family.
- Liz Roland: I was named after an age when knighthood was in flower and chivalry was bigger than the Beatles.
