The episode was originally going to be about Fry finding the body of his mom. However, this premise got the ax after the writers realized that Fry dragging his mom's fossilized corpse around New New York would be "too upsetting" to viewers.
This episode was nominated for the Emmy for outstanding animated program in 2003 (For less than half an hour.)
The song played in the last scene is "I Will Wait For You," originally from the movie The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964). This version was performed by Connie Francis.
When Fry is at the cryogenics lab, as he drops the pizza on the table, if you look in the trash can you can see Nibbler's eye sticking out.
When Seymour is sniffing for Fry, there is a golf course with a large sign, with a reference to a Simpsons episode where Homer and Marge fornicate under the big windmill. The Simpsons was also created by Matt Groening.
