This episode has an interesting premise involving one of Christie's colleagues, the Italian American cop Joe LoRusso (Andy Romano) who finds himself reminded of his heritage by Vincent Baggetta as an Italian American acquaintance Frankie Romano who indicates through some rather surprising racist rhetoric. Christie (Teresa Graves) shows support for her friend and finds herself equally in danger, but able to meet the mafia toe to toe (or their knives to her gun) in a fantastic showdown.
Broadway and movie vet Robert Alda plays the organized crime head out to get Baggetta who is being held as a witness, and has kidnapped Romano's father, an old friend of his. The dynamic of the various histories is very interesting, and in addition to being a good cop, quick on her feet and a fast thinker, Christie's also a devoted friend so she adds new dimensions to a wonderfully written character. The way this deals with certain Italian family loyalties has some sensational moral aspects to it, and this is sugar that makes for good crime show sauce.
